Well, so the countdown begins, it is now time to start gearing up for my last hoorah of the summer, Austin City Limits Festival. I have not been the best blogger over the summer, but this summer feels the busiest I think I have ever had. Two weddings, a trip to San Francisco, moving into a new house, I feel I need a vacation from the summer. But for now I feel I need to start looking at the bands I am about to see in October. First up, a band from Akron, Ohio, The Black Keys.
The other day while I was “working” out at Baylor, I had my 2010 ACL playlist going on my ipod and The Black Keys came on. For some reason a big smile came on my face like I was in on something that no one else knew about. Although the keys are starting to get big and finally get noticed by the mainstream, it still feels they fly under the radar. I see a lot of posts of people on facebook, etc. on ACL and all they talk about is how they can’t wait to see The National, or Muse, or Phish, or The Strokes, or (god forbid) The Eagles. I haven’t seen many that say, “ Can’t wait to get my mind blown by The Black Keys”. Don’t worry my status will say that the day I see them.
I have to say one of the best bands (other than Phoenix) over the past few years has been the Black Keys. The one thing I love about their music is that it is as raw as it can be, but with soul and feeling behind their lyrics. I can’t wait to see them live at ACL. I got lucky and got to see Dan Auerbach last year at ACL, but I can’t wait to see them together. They have an amazing catalogue of music, and I know they can’t play all of it in an hour set, but there won’t be a bad song played I have a feeling.
If you haven’t heard of the Black Keys, or just heard a few of their new songs, you should check them out. I have to say they are a great band that so far to this point only a few folks have heard, but they are about to get big.
Music for the past two(ok three)weeks:
So I have been horrible this summer of keeping up with my blog, but I promise over the next month I will try to do my best on talking about a few bands I am about to see, and some on the horizon that I want to go see. If you are ever in Dallas and get a chance to catch a show at the Granada Theater do it, best live music venue in Dallas.
So here is a list of some albums I have been listening to:
1. Best Coast-Crazy For You
2. Mike Posner-31 Minutes to Takeoff
3. The Band of Heathens
4. The Black Crowes-Croweology
5. The Wavves-King of the Beach
6. The Arcade Fire- The Suburbs
7. Band of Skulls-Baby Darling Doll Face Honey
8. Big Boi-Sir Lucious Left Foot:The Son of Chico Dusty
9. Drake- Thank me later
10. Local Natives-Gorilla Manor
